Goalies need dedicated coaching just like every other position. Starting Goalies works within your team’s regular practice, providing focused goalie instruction without requiring additional ice or another night at the rink.
Each session adapts to the age group, available ice and the team’s practice plan.
Approximately the first 20 minutes are spent working directly with the goalie in a safe section of the ice.
Position-specific movement and technique, with capable shooters.
The remainder of the practice is spent coaching and observing the goalie within normal team drills and scrimmage situations.

Founder & Head Goalie Coach
A coach first, Steve has worked with goalies across GTHL, NYHL and OWHL hockey since 2009, from House League and Select through Rep hockey. Adult coaching is also available.
Head coaches, team general managers and club or association contacts can book training. Goalie parents are also welcome to bring Starting Goalies to their team.
Weekly coaching is available and provides the best continuity throughout the season.
U8 through U18, including House League, Select and Rep hockey. Adult coaching is also available through dedicated adult programs.
Toronto and the GTA. Availability depends on arena location and practice schedule.

Yes. Multi-team club arrangements are available and can be coordinated around existing practice schedules.
No. Starting Goalies is an independent goalie-coaching business with experience working with teams across Toronto minor hockey.
Yes. Starting Goalies is designed to provide goalie instruction during existing team practices. Participation with Hockey Canada-sanctioned teams is subject to the registration, screening and association requirements applicable to outside instructors.
Steve has previously completed the requirements to coach within sanctioned minor hockey programs, including recent work with a GTHL club. Any required 2026–27 registration, screening and insurance renewals will be confirmed before training begins.
Depending on the association, an outside instructor may need to be registered through the association before participating in a sanctioned practice. Starting Goalies will confirm the required process with the team or association before the first session.
